The Waiting Room

I recall numerous times rushing to the emergency room with my children. Either they had a high fever or knowing something was wrong. But did not know what it was.  I either had to wait to be seen or waited to hear the diagnosis from the doctor. At the moment, millions of thoughts raced through my mind and I began to prepare myself for the “what if’s”.

Have you ever looked up the definition on waiting?  Oxford’s Dictionary states, “Stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens. One of the biggest challenges for me is to wait.  Having to wait patiently for certain things. Whether waiting to hear the results from the doctor, a grade on an exam, a promotion at work or what am I suppose to be doing in this life?

It becomes hard to stay the course and not become impatient or saturated with frustration. In hopes that I do not make a drastic move and makes matters worse.  Maybe you are going through a difficult time today, or have been waiting on certain results.  You are becoming weary in the waiting or are afraid the situation will repeat itself once again.  It can be so difficult to “stay where one is

There have been many times in my life that I did not get the results on what I had been waiting on. That I went ahead of God and gave myself the results that seem to fit my current situation because I felt the needed to do something about it.

You would think I have the initials M.D., after my name.  I have been the doctor of my life and came out with my own results, diagnosis and suggestions.  That streak of rebellion kicks in and says, “I know best and since your not moving God, I am.  “At times I hear the Lord saying, “How many times are you going to continue to go around the same block and what makes you think you know what is best for you?” “Am I not your creator and have orchestrated your footsteps?

I can see the rolling of the eyes now or the attitude rising within you.  The pride and impatience in us can speak louder and wants results now! What I have learned throughout this is, God knows what is best for our lives.   What if I told you that in the waiting, the diagnosis may not be what you want it to be at that moment?  That at times you have to stay where one is” until the doctor gives you the results. He knows what is best for you! Wait in that!

But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Is.  41:30).

Wait for the Lordbe strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Ps. 27:14).

Outstretched Arms

afterglow-backlit-beautiful-556666 (1)Have you ever watched how a parent responds when they see their children hurt or crying? Or how children won’t allow just anyone to pick them up? Attempt it and tell me what happens!  There is a possibility of them screaming like you did something bad to them. They must know you in order for you to pick them up.

There have been many times in my life when life challenges hit me so hard that all I could do was cry. I can be skeptical of people and can hold people at arm’s length, not even realizing I am doing that. I am guilty of doing the same thing with God. I have questioned his direction on things that occurred throughout my life, I have pushed him away.  I’ve been like a two-year-old having a tantrum because I did not get my answer or life did not go as planned in that season of my life.

One day I heard God say, “Allow me to pick you up.” But I wasn’t quite sure if I could trust him, let alone allow him close to my heart. As I was worshipping I had my arms outstretched, extended as if I was reaching towards heaven. This became symbolic to me as a form of surrender with my daddy and I. Like a daughter reaching out for her daddy to be picked up!

How many times in our lives do we need to be picked up? Especially when life challenges hit us so hard that we can barely stand and that all we can do is cry. Like that child crying out for their mommy or daddy for comfort!

Today, I want to bring comfort to you and pick you up!  By encouraging you and reaching out my hand and tell you, “God is there to pick you up, to hold you when life gets hard, or has knocked you down! Stretch out those arms and allow him to pick you up!

Life Application:

  1. Reflect on those things that have knocked you down, are you going to stay down?
  2. Will you allow the Lord to pick you up?
  3. Here is a challenge for you, “I dare you to stretch your arms out towards Jesus!”

The LORD helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. (Psalms 145:14, New Living Translation).

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand(Isaiah 41:10, New Living Translation).

If your thinking of someone who can use a touch today, share this with them! You never know what someone else is going through, that are feeling knocked down by life’s challenges and that need that outstretched arm! Help me to reach them and be that Carrier of Hope to them!

God bless you and I hope you took the challenge!
